Desert Sand is a quiet little town in the middle of the Chiricahua Desert in New Mexico‘s boot heel. It’s a sleepy town where everyone knows one another, their parents, and their kids. Most of the town’s citizens, though, are seniors and their favorite local hangout is MacDuff’s Diner. They breakfast there most mornings and exchange gossip and gun magazines, and plan their hikes into the Peloncillo Mountains or motorcycle rides to any place of their choosing. However, all that changed the day Lenore Halstrom was shot dead in MacDuff’s and fell face first into her bowl of cranberry-pecan oatmeal.

I really enjoyed this rollicking tale. The use of language is particularly good and used to build comic scenes very well. The characters are well rounded, believable and avoid most of the cozy mystery stereotypes. There is a large cast of characters, but short, vivid descriptions and names easily keeps them straight and adds depth to the tale. The snarking and friendly banter between the characters was entertaining.I did guess 'whodunnit' but I had such fun riding along with the sleuths as they pieced together the puzzle that I didn't mind that in the least. I am taking off one star simply because my version of this e book needed a bit more editing - some paragraphs were repeated etc. which lifted me out of MacDuff's Diner and the fun I was having. I would love to spend more time with these fresh, interesting characters and hope for a sequel!

Very thrilling. Book is filled with people over 60 in this little town working to solve some unusual murders. Yeah for them. I could relate to all the characters and did not figure out the real murderer until revealed in the end. The characters are tough and won't give up on each other. Real nailbiter.
Very funny and well thought out. Kept me quessing.
This book was so much fun. I loved it so much.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. A clean, fun read with interesting characters and an intriguing mystery. The plot has a good puzzle and enough twists and turns to keep you guessing between laughs. Highly recommend. I hope P.J. Repond writes a follow up about more happenings at the MacDuff Diner soon.
